Several Brown Water Advisories issued for Maui shorelines last week were canceled as of Thursday, May 1.
BWA cancellations include the stretch of shoreline from Baby Beach to Launiupoko and McGregor Point to Maalaea Harbor.
The Hawaii Department of Health also issued an updated Brown Water Advisory on Thursday for the area between Kealia Resort through Waipuilani Beach Park, which was previously from Kealia Pond to Cove Park.
DOH advises all beach goers to stay out of brown or murky water, especially after storms or heavy rain since it could contain “higher than normal pollutant levels.” Officials recommend people stay out of the water for 48 to 72 hours after the rain has stopped and the beach has received full sunshine.
Do not swim, wade or drink water from any freshwater streams or ponds to prevent leptospirosis, a bacterial infection caused by the Leptospira bacteria.
