CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If it feels like the pollen is worse this year, you’re right.
- Scientists say the pollen season is worse
- Pollen can wreak havoc on your car
- Diamond Finish Car Wash and Lube Center has tips to prevent this
Climate scientists say we’re experiencing a longer spring, therefore there will be more pollen.
If it’s already wreaking havoc on your allergies, it might be wreaking havoc somewhere else; your car.
At the Diamond Finish Car Wash and Lube Center, they say pollen can erode paint if it gets piled up and sits for too long.
They also say it can get stuck in your cabin air filter for weeks, driving your eyes and nose crazy long after the pollen season is over.
“Eventually, the filter will get clogged up, it will stop doing its job and pollen will get inside the car. So, always important to clean it out when you see it get dirty,” said Brody Johnson, operations manager at Diamond Finish.
Johnson also says to prevent the pollen from impacting your car’s paint, take it to get washed regularly.
“If you let pollen stay on the car without getting it off the car, it will get down in your paint,” he said. "Some wax jobs will get it off, but try not to get that far.”
Johnson says he notices how the pollen season is worse.
“Customers come in two, three times a week just for the pollen on cars,” he said.
He says it’s better to do the simple maintenance now, compared to paying for a bigger job down the road.
