CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers have installed new additions in the arena for playoff season, including a new lightning system.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cavs installed new lighting system that has more than 500 lights

  • They also installed snow blowers and fans to make it snow during some of the games

  • The lighting system is the biggest in North America in terms of a sporting venue and the biggest in the NBA

Chris Kaiser, the chief marketing officer for the Cavs, said they installed it right before the first round of playoffs.

“It’s the biggest lightning rig in North America at a sporting venue, especially in the NBA,” he said.

More than 500 lights were installed for the new system.

“We always say we want the most intimidating, loudest, you know, overwhelming home court advantage in the NBA, and this is one of those things that’s just gonna completely you know amplify everything that we do,” Kaiser said.

The old system had fewer than 100 lights. Kaiser said it’s all about adding to the fan experience.

“We want people to walk out of here with lifelong memories,” he said.

The lights aren’t the only addition.

All season long the Cavs have been saying there’s a “Cavalanche” when the team makes a run and scores a lot of points. During Round One of the playoffs, the organization made it snow inside Rocket Arena. Kaiser said the snow machines were installed at the same time as the lights.

“Made it snow on people, people went crazy," he said. "It was like maybe the most exciting three minutes that we’ve had in the entire playoffs just in terms of crowd energy."

The new additions will hopefully help fans get louder to support the Cavs, and the goal is that they leave Rocket Arena with memories.

“People can come together as family, friends and kind of rally around the Cavs during this playoff run,” Kaiser said.
