CLEVELAND — The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced Sunday night on American Idol.
Andy Leach, the senior director of museum and archival collections at the Rock Hall, said every year they are so excited when they get to announce the new inductees.
Thirteen names will be added to the long list of inductees. There are seven people who will be inducted into the performer category.
That list is Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden and the White Stripes.
“Its diverse in terms of gender, and race and ethnicity and of course musical styles and eras too,” Leach said.
It takes months to decide who will be in the inductee class.
“Every year the nominating committee for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame meets in New York and they kind of come up with a ballot and then that ballot goes out to be 1,200 people who vote,” Leach said.
There are also non-performer categories that make up the other 6 artists who will be inducted this year.
“Seven performers or so who get inducted and then the nominating committee adds a few more inductees in these extra categories,” Leach said.
Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will be inducted into the Musical Influence Category. Lenny Waronker will be honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins and Carole Kay will be inducted into the Musical Excellence category.
“I’m really happy that Carol Kaye is finally being recognized. She revolutionized the bass guitar and contributed to so many songs in the history of rock and roll,” Leach said.
The only 2025 inductees that currently have artifacts at the museum are the White Stripes, but in the coming months, the rest of this year’s inductees will have artifacts in the museum.
Leach is excited that northeast Ohio gets to be a part of it all.
“We’re so proud to have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here in Cleveland,” he said.
The induction ceremony will be in Los Angeles this November.
