Today's Big Stories

1. 100 days: Trump ramps up hardline immigration enforcement measures

With President Donald Trump marking 100 days since his inauguration, the White House is celebrating what he has done so far on one of his biggest campaign issues — immigration. While Texas Republicans are backing him up, Democrats in the state are criticizing his new policies.

Administration officials have touted more than 66,000 arrests and 139,000 deportations of undocumented people, as well as how unlawful border crossings fell to the lowest number ever recorded.

2. Trump's first 100 days left some Texas federal workers jobless

President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office brought turmoil to many federal workers’ lives, including some in Texas.

In step with his political ally Elon Musk, Trump ordered the firing of thousands of federal workers in February. Trump’s decision left a mark on Texas, which has one of the largest populations of federal workers in the country.

3. The U.S. government has a new policy for terminating international students' legal status

The U.S. government has begun shedding new light on a crackdown on international students, spelling out how it targeted thousands of people and laying out the grounds for terminating their legal status.

The new details emerged in lawsuits filed by some of the students who suddenly had their status canceled in recent weeks with little explanation.

4. U.S. economy shrinks 0.3% in first quarter as Trump trade wars disrupt business

The U.S. economy shrank at a 0.3% annual pace from January through March, the first drop in three years, as President Donald Trump's trade wars disrupted business. First-quarter growth was slowed by a surge in imports as companies in the United States tried to bring in foreign goods before Trump imposed massive tariffs.
