COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s nine electoral votes will go to former President Donald Trump according to an Associated Press (AP) race call.

The AP made the declaration for the race in South Carolina at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday.

The Palmetto State is known to be primarily red with presidential candidates rarely taking time to campaign there.

Trump’s campaign has seen previous popularity as the former president carried the state in 2016 by 14 points and 2020 by 12 points.

The last time South Carolina voted for a Democratic nominee for president was 1976 for former Georgia governor, Jimmy Carter. Carter narrowly defeated incumbent Republican President Gerald Ford.
