COLUMBIA, S.C. – Election day is right around the corner and while voters are filling in seats of government, South Carolinians will also see one statewide ballot measure.
The amendment is centered on a one word change that is set to further specify who has the right to vote here in the United States.
The ballot measure reads, “Must Section 4, Article II of the Constitution of this State, relating to voter qualifications, be amended so as to provide that only a citizen of the United States and of this State of the age of eighteen and upwards who is properly registered is entitled to vote as provided by law?”
In short, voters will be deciding whether or not the amendment should be written as “every citizen” or “only a citizen”.
South Carolina is one of eight states with “Citizen Only Voting” amendments on this upcoming November ballot.
