Pickens County, S.C. — State forestry officials say they expect fire activity to increase in the Upstate, as low humidity and powerful winds move in.

This comes as crews continue their efforts to contain a more than 1,100 acre blaze at Table Rock State Park.

Another wildfire in Greenville’s ‘Persimmon Ridge’ has reportedly diminished in size to roughly 300 acres.

Greenville County officials are planning a door-to door public information campaign east of that ridge area.

Due to the statewide burn ban across South Carolina, some state parks are limiting their access to residents such as Table Rock, Caesars Head, and Jones Gap State Park. These parks will remain closed until further notice.

Governor Henry McMaster announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved South Carolina's request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) to help support the effort to contain the Table Rock Fire in Pickens County and the Persimmon Ridge Fire in Greenville County.

This makes South Carolina eligible for a 75% reimbursement from the federal government for costs associated with battling the fires.

The Table Rock Fire started on Friday, March 1 and has burned more than 1,000 acres.

Persimmon Ridge Fire started on Sunday, March 23 and has burned more than 800 acres.

The State Forester’s Burning Ban remains in place for all counties. This ban prohibits all outdoors burning, yard debris, prescribed burning, and campfires.
