Charleston, S.C. — On Monday, 'The Uvalde Foundation For Kids', now known as 'The One In Five Foundation For Kids', announced that they will be volunteering patrols to help those within the McColl community.
The foundation, which was formed following the Uvalde, Texas mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, launched the 'STOPNOW' citizen patrols in an effort to help and ensure the safety of McColl's student population and overall community of about 2,000 people.
In a statement on Facebook, the organization said they made this decision following the resignation of the towns entire police force, Chief, and the recent death of McColl’s Mayor.
Since, making the initial announcement, the organization added to the post with new information.
Daniel Chapin, the founder of 'The One Foundation For Kids’ said, "This decision in part was made, under my authority, due to the lack of law enforcement & city leaders accountability and "murky," past which itself dauntingly overshadows and has created this unnerving situation for the community in the first place. When you have an entire police force and its Chief resign, coupled with the Mayor being killed while himself being pursued by the very department assigned to "protect him," - It leaves very little trust for collaboration."
Chapin also stated that permission for collaboration is not required or sought out by them and that the community don’t need the Sheriff’s permission to be empowered to do its part.
