GREENVILLE, S.C. — Multiple animal shelters across the state are teaming up with the BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) for its annual reduced-fee adoption event.
The “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” works to reduce adoption fees at more than 390 shelters in 45 states.
According to BPF’s website, the efforts are the nation’s largest funded adoption event.
“Empty the Shelters helps homeless pets find families by making adoption affordable for prospective pet owners. We do this by supporting participating organizations with reimbursement for each pet adopted," the website reads.
Adopters can take home a fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered pet for $50 or less.
Nine organizations in South Carolina are participating in the “Empty the Shelters” event:
- Greenville County Animal Care in Greenville
- Humane Society of York County in Fort Mill
- Anderson County PAWS in Anderson
- Friends of the Animal Shelter of Aiken in Aiken
- SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare in Aiken
- Animal Shelter of Clarendon County in Manning
- Berkeley Animal Center in Moncks Corner
- Dorchester PAWS (Formerly SPCA) in Summerville
- Charleston Animal Society in North Charleston
Potential adopters are encouraged to contact their shelter to follow its own adoption procedures and requirements.
The event runs through Tuesday, Dec. 17.
