LEXINGTON, S.C. - Poll Managers and assistants are responsible for making sure elections run smoothly. So what does it take to be a Poll Manager or Poll Manager Assistant?

Once you turn 16 years of age, most states allow teens to work as Poll Managers or Poll Managers Assistants. All poll workers also receive the same pay, no matter your age.

Workers are also required to attend a Poll Manager Training Class before every election. When election day arrives, workers are expected to arrive at their local precinct by 6 a.m., or an hour before polls open.

In addition, those workers must make themselves available for a 12-hour shift that will often require extra closing time. South Carolina mandates that as long as a voter is in line before the polls close, they will be able to vote that day.

According to the Lexington County Election Commission, the only disqualifier for being a Poll Manager is having a relative or supervisor on a ballot that election season.
