COLUMBIA, S.C. - The city of Columbia cut the ribbon on a new state-of-the-art fitness park Wednesday.
City leaders say the Greenview Park fitness courts will allow people to get an outdoor workout without the need to bring any extra weights or equipment. The courts have bars and rings that will allow people to use lifts or beams for various exercises.
“We are committed to creating healthier Columbia as an investment in our future,” said Mayor Daniel Rickenmann. "These new Fitness Courts are a testament to that commitment, offering residents a convenient and enjoyable way to stay active outside.”
Among some of the first users of the new fitness area on Wednesday were members of the Columbia-Richland Fire department, who demonstrated various movements that can be performed.
While this is the first Fitness Court in Columbia, it is the sixth in the state. The seventh location will open up at Finlay park in the near future.
