CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson University’s President, Jim Clements, received a five-year contract extension during the university’s Board of Trustees quarterly meeting.

Clements became Clemson’s 15th President upon his signing on Dec. 13, 2013. Once the extension is complete, he will be Clemson’s third longest serving President behind Robert Franklin Poole from 1940-58 and Robert C. Edwards from 1958-79.

“The unprecedented ascension of Clemson University under his leadership over the past decade is remarkable,” wrote board chair, Kim Wilkerson. “Today’s Board action is a testament to Jim’s continued leadership and vision as our University delivers on the Clemson Elevate strategic plan.”

According to a news release from the university, Clemson has achieved “extraordinary successes” under Clements’ leadership over the last decade: record-breaking numbers in admissions and enrollment, fundraising, athletic, retention and graduation rates, and national academic awards.

The contract extension includes a whole life insurance policy addition, a one-time signing bonus of $100,000, and a new metrics-based annual incentive plan. In comparison, the salary of the president in 2022 was $987,530.
