GREENVILLE, S.C. — The majority of schools in the Upstate remain closed Monday, Oct. 6, following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Now, school officials are making plans for what the rest of the week will look like for operations across the region.

Greenville County Schools

The school district announced on Friday, Oct. 4 that all schools will be closed Monday, and all activities are cancelled.

In a statement, the district said "While considerable improvement has been made since Hurricane Helene hit last Friday, the process documented more than 1,500 issues making it unsafe for both buses and cars, including downed and low-hanging power lines, significant amounts of debris in the roads, complete road blockages, closed bridges, sinkholes, and traffic signal outages at major intersections.”

A decision regarding Tuesday, Oct. 8, will be announced Monday afternoon once GCS team members have the chance to reassess road conditions.

Spartanburg School Districts 1-7

School districts 1, 3, 4, and 6 announced they will remain closed on Monday with no e-learning expectations.

Announcements for Tuesday’s operations are expected Monday afternoon.

Spartanburg School District 2 will open on Monday for staff only with normal operations resuming for all students Tuesday morning.

Spartanburg School Districts 5 and 7 will open on Monday for staff only.

On Tuesday, the district will operate on a two-hour delay with normal operations resuming Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Pickens County Schools

The School District of Pickens County announced all SDPC schools will return to normal operations beginning Monday.

SDPC announced, “Our transportation staff has also assessed bus routes and determined that buses will not travel on roads that are impassable by large vehicles.”

Anderson County Schools

According to District 3 chief communications officer Dylan McCullough, all Anderson County school districts will remain closed as Monday and Tuesday are previously scheduled student holidays. Normal operations will resume on Wednesday.

Cherokee County Schools

Cherokee County Schools will open on Monday for staff only. Announcements regarding Tuesday’s operations are expected to be announced on Monday.

Greenwood County Schools

Greenwood County School District 52 is on Fall Break beginning Monday, September 30 – Friday, October 11.
