RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. - The South Carolina Election Commission has ordered the state's voter registration deadline be extended to Oct. 14 due to the impact of Hurricane Helene.
The extended deadline applies to all methods of registration, and for voters in all counties.
The deadline for in-person voter registration was originally Oct. 4, while the deadline for online voter registration was Oct. 6.
According to the state Election Commission, voter registration offices in several counties were forced to close for several days as a result of the storm. Offices in Edgefield, Laurens, and McCormick remain closed. The Commission says that on the Oct. 14 day of the deadline, most voter registration offices will close at 5 p.m.
