CHARLESTON, S.C. - After having a few moments to speak with President Joe Biden at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport on Wednesday, Governor Henry McMaster asked for the federal government to intervene in the ongoing strike by dockworkers, including here in South Carolina.

“We know the strike at the port is putting additional pressure on us,” McMaster said. “We know that one out of 10 people in our state, all over the state, don’t work for the port, but the port works for them. The impact of that strike, we hope it’ll be over soon, but that will be another test that we will have to undergo, so we are working hard.”

Currently, South Carolina ports are closed until further notice. This message was shared on the SC Ports website. "Following the break in operations, SC Ports and our maritime industry partners will marshal every resource possible to facilitate the swift recovery of business. Measures will be implemented based on terminal operating conditions and need, as well as the duration of the interruption.  Operational details will be shared as soon as they become available."

Nationwide, the workers' strike is expected to cause a price increase on goods as well as a shortage of products.
