LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. - The Laurens Commission of Public Works has approved a resolution to construct a new, million-gallon water tank.

The tank will be constructed for more than $5 million by Kentucky-based company Caldwell Tanks, Inc. It is funded through the South Carolina Infrastructure Investment Program. City officials say the new tank will be located at 155 Dean Drive and is expected to be built by 2026.

Water tanks are used by the city to store water and manage city-wide water pressure and flow.

Laurens currently has five operating water tanks, however, city officials say the height of the recently-approved tank will allow the Commission of Public Works to decomission three others, reducing maintenance costs.
