MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - A Myrtle Beach food bank is receiving grant money from U.S. Foods to modernize its distribution process. Lowcountry Food Bank will be setting up lockers at North Strand Helping Hand in Longs. The program is implemented through existing food banks.

Those in need can use an online ordering platform, where people can place customized grocery orders. Once the order is ready, it can be pick it up from an assigned locker. Lockers can be refrigerated, frozen, or non-temperature-controlled. They can be placed in convenient areas like local grocery stores and other highly frequented locations in the community.

Organizers at Lowcountry Food Bank say they hope to have these lockers operating by December.
