MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - As the storm season continues, Myrtle Beach officials encourage everyone to exercise caution when entering the water. They say even if a storm is not directly impacting a specific area, the winds can still cause high surf and rip currents.

This comes as just last week, two men died after getting caught in a rip current off the coast of Hilton Head Island.

Officials remind everyone that if you get caught in a rip current, do not panic. Instead, do your best to swim parallel to the current and not through it. You can also float to avoid exerting too much energy.

In addition, always be on the lookout for lifeguards and beware of any signs on the beach that may prohibit swimming on that day.
