The Holidays are made for a good page-turner. A Rochester writer is sharing the magic of the season with her new holiday novel "Christmas in Whimsy."

The story is a little romance, a little bit of magic and the spirit of the season. It's relatable, that balance between love and career. The reader never really knows where they are going to land.

Author Clarissa Markiewicz is an accomplished literary editor, fiction writer and lyricist.

"It is a holiday TV movie wrapped up in a book and hopefully one or two extra little twists that maybe you didn't see coming before, but definitely that fun, heartwarming feeling we all love this time of year," said Markiewicz.

She grew up in Buffalo but now calls Rochester home.

"I love it here. I mean I have lived in some great places and I have met amazing people but Rochester just feels like home to me. I have some of the most supportive and generous people here and talk about really being able to draw on your experiences and write a little bit of magic and a little bit of fun and little bit of community in wonderful holiday setting...that is everywhere around here."

Longtime family friend and watercolor artist Mary Ann Sawyer-Wade did the cover art for the book.

"I was really, really excited when she asked me to the cover for the book because it is a wonderful book and I just have known Clarissa since she was a baby so it was fun to work with on it," said Sawyer-Wade.

You can meet Clarissa Markiewicz and artist Mary Ann Sawyer-Wade during a reception and gallery show opening on Thursday, December 12 at My Sister's Gallery at the Episcopal Church Home. It runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 505 Mt. Hope Avenue in Rochester.

Markiewicz is donating a portion of her book sale proceeds to the Holding the Door Open program that supports organizations like Bivona Child Advocacy Center and Teach for America.

“Christmas in Whimsy” is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and BookBaby.
