The Irondequoit Town Board is moving to censure Town Supervisor Andrae Evans after sexual harassment allegations surfaced against him. All board members, with the exception of Evans, voted in favor of the censure at a meeting Thursday night.
The vote comes after a report was released last month accusing Evans of sexually harassing an employee and retaliating against them until they resigned.
The town board continues to recommend he resign, but if he does not, he is ordered to work remotely and will not be allowed to enter non-public areas of the town hall or other town buildings until further notice.
Town board members describe this as unchartered waters in Irondequoit.
"If he wasn't an elected official he would have been gone a long time ago and we would have walked him out, but he's an elected official," said board member John Perticone. "Even after all the allegations, he's still here being able to work. He makes people very uncomfortable and that's why we had to censure him to work remotely and not come into the office."
The Monroe County District Attorney's Office is investigating the incident for any potentially criminal conduct.
