COLUMBUS, Ohio — AEP Ohio asked its customers to reduce energy use from on Tuesday to prevent rolling blackouts.

The company asked customers to focus on reducing their use during peak demand from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. to reduce the demand on the grid.

"Extreme heat is placing significant burden on the 13-state electric grid that includes Ohio," AEP said in a post on X.

AEP recommended several ways for customers to reduce their energy:

  • Unplug or turn off appliances not being used
  • Turn thermostats up a couple of degrees
  • Avoid using large appliances like dishwashers, ovens, washing machines and dryers.
