CLEVELAND — A Cuyahoga County grand jury returned an indictment for 11 young adults for vandalism and breaking and entering at Case Western Reserve University in early November. 

The indictment charges Nathan George, 21, Quincy Purcell, 20, Elizabeth Sindhi, 20, Raissa Rih-Reh, 22, Benjamin Mullin-Vanneste, 22, Amelia Morris, 25, Neelan McMillian, 21, Kamal Alkayali, 21, Amir Wilson, 22, Jenna Muhieddine, 20, and Sarah Selan, 22, with the crimes. 

“Peaceful protests are a fundamental cornerstone of our democracy,” said Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “When demonstrators cross over the line and commit criminal acts, it is our responsibility to hold those individuals accountable.”

Officials said between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 8, George, Purcell, Sindhi, Rih-Reh, Mullin-Vanneste, Morris, McMillian, Alkayali, Wilson, Muhieddine and Selan broke into CWRU. They said they broke in near Euclid Avenue and Adelbert Road. 

Prosecutors said the group then split in two and vandalized borth the north and south sides of the campus, dumping and smearing gallons of red paint across the school. 

In total, officials say the group cause $400,000 in damages.

The 11 were indicted on Feb. 18 of one count vandalism, one count of possessing criminal tools and one count breaking and entering. Alkayali also faces an additional count of telecommunications harassment for repeatedly calling a CWRU dean.

The prosecutor's office did not idenitfy if any of the indicted were CWRU students. 

Last fall, protests formed across many college campuses, including CWRU where an encampment was formed.
