LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The famed Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid has hosted some big time sporting events including the 1980 Olympics and the Miracle on Ice.
But one thing that its believed to have never happened there: a professional hockey game during the regular season.
There have been practices and camps, but never a real game.
Next year it will finally happen. The new ECHL minor league team in Glens Falls, the Adirondack Thunder, will take on the Reading Royals on Sunday, March 13.
The team is planning an Olympic experience for fans.
Those in Lake Placid say it's exciting and a chance for the village to add one more chapter to its hockey legacy.
