The city of Rochester is preparing to celebrate St. Patrick's Day weekend.
The St. Patrick's Day parade committee is holding its annual painting of the green on East Main Street on Friday to mark the parade route.
The St. Patrick's Parade will begin Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at East Avenue and Alexander Street. It will follow its traditional route finishing at the corner of Fitzhugh Street.
Street parking is prohibited along the parade route, however, there are several downtown garages offering free parking on Saturday.
The following city garages will be free to park in on parade day:
- Mortimer Street
- Sister Cities
- High Falls Garage
- Washington Square Garage (until 4 p.m.)
- South Avenue Garage (until 4 p.m.)
- Court Street Garage (until 4 p.m.)
- East End is free (until 4 p.m.)
The theme this year is "Celebrating the Legacy of the Erie Canal," which will be represented in the floats.
