Major General Milford Beagle announced Fort Drum still plans on hosting its annual Mountainfest, despite a jump in COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County.
The event typically features military activities such as a salute to the nation, as well as some family fun like games, rides and various vendors.
This year’s event is set for September 1.
It will feature a free concert from country music star Randy Houser, along with food trucks and a fireworks show.
Beagle says the post will continue to monitor COVID in case any safety measures need to be taken.
"The key thing about Mountainfest is being able to open our gates," Beagle said. "It’s that one point in a year where we can say come see what your army does. I always stress your Army. To see it from a soldier’s perspective, to see it and talk with the families, just what they do and understanding what happens on Fort Drum, it’s just great for us to do that."
Meanwhile, country star Dustin Lynch was forced to cancel Friday night's concert in Watertown out of an abundance of caution, after a member of his touring party fell ill.
