The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are changing their name, but only for a few games.

The team is adding another alternate identity, and are set to play as the Southern Tier Spicy Meatballs from Aug. 14-16

The club says the name is meant to reflect the area’s Italian American heritage.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance Saturday, Aug. 16 at Mirabito Stadium will receive a Spicy Meatballs replica jersey.

The team announced plans earlier this year to play as the Binghamton Bathtub Donkeys in games on June 28 and July 30.

But fans of the regular name should worry not: The Rumble Ponies will still be the Rumble Ponies when they play their home opener on Apr. 8 against the Hartford Yard Goats.
