Meet Boomer. The eagle was "hatched" in February.

Born to be the mascot at Jefferson Community College, Boomer has found himself all dressed up, but unfortunately, he has no place to go. COVID-19 restrictions are still limiting sports in the region, and it might be a bit before Boomer gets to spread his wings.

What You Need To Know

  • Jefferson Community College has a new mascot, an eagle named Boomer

  • "Hatched" in February, Boomer hasn't been able to attend a sporting event yet because of COVID-19

  • Boomer, however, has reached the finals of an online contest to pick SUNY's favorite mascot

However, with JCC Athletic Director Jeff Wiley by his side, Boomer is not just sitting back and relaxing. Instead, Boomer is getting in game shape. He's lifting weights, working out, and making sure he's ready for when that call finally comes.

But while he waits, Boomer is also getting in a different kind of workout. This one is where his talons, and yours, are definitely needed.

Boomer is taking part in a SUNY contest called Mask-ot Madness. It's a bracket where voters choose their favorite mascot. Boomer is now in the finals. He's hoping people everywhere will join him in voting.

"It would be really cool. I mean, we haven't been in it. It's our first time. He's rookie of the year already. We're in the championship, and the Red Dragons have been in there for quite a while, and hopefully we can pull off a big win here," Wiley said.

Boomer hopes to debut on the athletic fields later this month. For more information on the contest and to vote, go to this link.
