Authorities are investigating the death of a 6-month-old child in Jefferson County.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, deputies got a call reporting an unconscious infant at a home on state Route 411 in Lafargeville on Friday.

The father of the child, Kelly Hershewe, 25, handed his infant to the responding emergency crews who then rushed the child to Samaritan Medical Center.

The child was later pronounced dead there.

This investigation is ongoing.
