Syracuse University submitted an application Tuesday to borrow $500 million to build three dormitories and complete other projects in Syracuse, according to the Onondaga Civic Development Corporation, which supports nonprofit projects.
A public hearing on the funding and project, which requires the council's issuance of a half-billion dollars in revenue bonds on behalf of the university, was set for April 2.
The project includes the construction of 544 University Place Residence Hall, a 206,000-square-foot, six-story residence hall at University Place; an up to 10-story, 310,000-square-foot Waverly Residence Hall at 305 Waverly Ave.; and the Comstock Residence Hall, an up to 10-story, 247,000-square-foot facility at 305 Waverly Ave.
The last two dorms will require demolitions, according to plans.
The project also calls for the construction, reconstruction or renovation of certain facilities related to the University's College of Engineering and Computer Science and more.
The public hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 2 in Equitable Towers, 100-120 Madison St., Syracuse. Written comments may be sent to the Onondaga Civic Development Corporation, attention Nathaniel Stevens, 335 Montgomery St., Syracuse, New York 13202, or at NateStevens@ongov.net by April 1.
