The Liverpool Central School District's school board on Wednesday voted unanimously to immediately end the tenure of Superintendent Daniel Henner and appoint an interim leader.

In approving a voluntary separation agreement with Henner, the school board released a statement saying the move was "in the best interest of the school district and our community as we continue our ultimate focus on improving educational outcomes for our students."

The board appointed Deputy Superintendent Douglas Lawrence as interim superintendent of schools, and said members will work with him to ensure a smooth transition.

"Given Mr. Lawrence’s qualifications and substantial experience at Liverpool, we are quite confident that there will be minimal, if any, disruption to the school district’s day-to-day operations; and none should be noticed in our school buildings," the board stated.

Board members intend to promptly begin searching for a permanent superintendent. The search will start in the coming weeks with a request for proposals for a search consultant.

"Our goal is to find a leader who will build on the progress we’ve made and guide our district into an ever-better future," the board said.
