Syracuse Police are seeking information about gunshots fired on Highland Street Wednesday, including at least one that struck a school bus carrying four elementary school students and a driver.

The incident occurred around 2:18 p.m. on the 400 block of Highland Street, according to police, who said they found multiple casings at the scene. No one was hurt.

A bullet inadvertently struck the radiator and disabled the First Student bus, the Syracuse City School District said. Parents of the students on the bus were notified, and the students were taken home.

“I’m relieved no one was injured, but as a parent of city school students, I’m angry and upset," Mayor Ben Walsh said. "The incident is the result of too many guns on our streets and reckless actions by individuals that will not be tolerated in our community. I’m confident the Syracuse Police Department will find those responsible and hold them accountable."

A police investigation is active. Anyone with information should contact police at (315) 442-5222.
