The future is uncertain for two former medical campuses in Oneida County that closed when the new Wynn Hospital opened.

The second in a series of community meetings was held Tuesday night about the former St. Luke’s medical campus.

What You Need To Know

  • The St. Elizabeth's and St. Luke's medical campuses closed after the Wynn Hospital opened in Utica
  • Community members are invited to engage in the discussion about the future of the sites
  • The second community workshop about St. Luke's took place on Tuesday

“I think it's important to get community input because there's somebody who may have this fantastic idea that somebody didn't think of," said Mary MacEnroe of New Hartford.

The site is still owned by the Mohawk Valley Health System, but others, including Mohawk Valley EDGE and community leaders are helping lead the discussion on the site’s redevelopment Master Plan.

They want to hear from the community.

“Their input is important. Their voice needs to be heard and if they want it, they have to be here and be a part of it. But also understanding that this is a partnership of multiple, multiple entities working together," said Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente.

Visitors had the chance to weigh in on what ideas they do and don’t support.

Everything from housing to recreation was on the table.

“This is an opportunity to put in great new housing into land that is in the center of the community," said MacEnroe. She suggested other ideas involving health and fitness, such as a pool.

The next Community Visioning Workshop is planned to happen in June.

Public forums are also taking place regarding the future of the St. Elizabeth’s campus.
