Gas prices may begin to trickle back up soon for New Yorkers.
Last June, New York state lawmakers included a six-month suspension of about 16 cents per gallon in gas taxes to help individuals out a little bit at the pump.
However, that is not expected to be extended.
As 2023 begins, professionals at AAA say residents should prepare for those price increases any way they can.
"[You should] map your route, combine your errands, check your tire pressure, especially this time of year,” AAA communications specialist Mark Gruba said. “Because as that tire pressure drops, your fuel mileage is not as good."
While the national average for gas prices is down to $3.22, statewide, New York's average currently sits at $3.39.
In Albany, a gallon of gas currently sits at $3.39.
Syracuse is also seeing similar prices, at around $3.38.
Rochester is seeing the highest locally, currently at $3.48, while Buffalo comes in at $3.44
