Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim updated the community on how his wife Juli is doing, after she was reportedly robbed at gunpoint outside Destiny USA.

The holdup occurred around 2 p.m. Tuesday while she was sitting in her car. Police say a young man approached her, displayed a handgun, reached inside, grabbed her purse and took off in a waiting vehicle.

Juli was not hurt, but her husband, calling into Brent Axe's On the Block Radio Show Wednesday, said it gave her quite a scare.

"She's definitely shook up; this isn't television, it's real life. Somebody puts a gun in your face ... She's handled it well, better than I probably would, and most people, I think, but this is not easy," said Boeheim in the phone interview.

Boeheim went on to say that Juli has already talked about trying to help the young man who committed the crime.

She is a major contributor to the local charity scene, running the Jim and Juli Boeheim fund which works to help kids across Central New York.

Destiny USA has become no stranger to public safety concerns, following a string of violent incidents, including a shooting in December that injured a man.

Just last year, the mall changed its policy to require younger visitors 17 years or younger to be accompanied by an adult guardian due to disruptions throughout the shopping center caused by youth.

Syracuse police said at the time that the decision was in hope to control crime at the mall which had gotten "out of control."
