Senator Charles Schumer says schools can indeed re-open this fall if they can do so safely and to do that, they'll need help from the federal government.

Schumer this week discussed a new bill he believes has bipartisan support called the Coronavirus Child Care and Education Relief Act. The bill would provide $345 billion to stabilize education needs, as they relate to the virus.

Currently, schools are facing a number of re-opening issues including how to safely get students to and from school, moving classes into larger rooms such as gyms and more.

Schumer says adding on the costs of providing students and staff with masks each day, sanitizers and more would have budgets blown out of the water.

"These are all large expenses for our school districts. At the same time, they're getting hit with the potential of state cuts of state aid becasue the state is short of money. So these are big problems," Schumer said.

Schumer's bill also includes $50 billion to ensure child care funding and child abuse prevention.
