SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Hays County Health Department issued a warning for Hays County residents and evacuees from affected counties of the potential increase in mosquito breeding due to the rainfall brought on by Harvey.
The increase of mosquito breeding habitats could bring the possibility for mosquito-borne diseases to arise.
Authorities recommend people to protect themelves with the three D’s:
• Drain all standing water at their home or business
• Dress in long-sleeve shirts and long pants
• Apply an insect repellant containing DEET whenever outside.
Officials say that following the rules of the 3 Ds will not only help to protect from Zika but all other mosquito-borne diseases as well.
