WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- The new playground at Watertown's Thompson Park is complete, but kids will have to wait just a couple of more days before they can play on it.

Over the weekend, about 400 volunteers helped install the last few pieces of equipment.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Erin Gardner says the playground will be inspected Tuesday. It will be open to the public as soon as that's done.

The new playground has many different features that stand out from the old one. Gardner says one the biggest goals was to make it so people of all abilities could enjoy it.

"A lot of our pieces of equipment are handicap accessible. The playground and the surfacing are handicap accessible. So, people with disabilities will be able to make use of our playground as well,” said Gardner.

A formal ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Monday, June 5.
