Based on the weather, people in the Southern Tier, could tell Wednesday is the first official day of winter.

Looking at snow totals, Binghamton is well ahead of schedule.  Already this year, 53 inches have fallen, according to the National Weather Service. Syracuse is also well ahead of schedule with 51 inches that have fallen.

Compare that to the average for this time of year, which is around 10 inches.  So Central New York and the Southern Tier are between 2 and 3 feet ahead of schedule.

It's hard to complain though considering one town in Oswego County has broken the record for the most snow to date.

The town of Redfield is already up over 112 inches for the season. It's the earliest that they've topped 100 inches of snow since they started keeping records.
