Three local libraries now have state-of-the-art security cameras to help protect their facilities and visitors.
Elected officials and Queens Library President Dennis Walcott announced the installment Wednesday of new surveillance cameras at the Fresh Meadows, Hollis and Windsor Park branches.
Former Council Member Mark Weprin allocated $200,000 for the new cameras last year.
Officials say the new devices have greater zoom capabilities among other features.
“It helps us immensely, immensely. It gives us the opportunity to go back and to investigate anything that needs to be investigated or viewed,” said James Phelan, Operations Manager at Queens Library.
“The cameras that are being installed today and in two other branches will help to ensure that security and the let bad guys see those cameras and know this isn't a place they should be,” added City Council Member Barry Grodenchik.
The new cameras are located both inside and outside the three branches.
