HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- The first personal injury suit in connection to water contamination in Hoosick Falls has been filed by Weitz and Luxenberg.

In the complaint, the plaintiff, Jed Donovan says that exposure to PFOA has caused him multiple illnesses.

He blames PFOA exposure for his compromised immune system and ulcerative colitis, which he claims gives him an increased probability of developing colon cancer.

“In a lot of the last five years my life has been hell, but I have some good days," Donavan said. “You can't eat certain foods, raw vegetables, raw fruits, no coffee. I can't even drink decaf.”

The lawsuit also alleges that St. Gobain and Honeywell knew or should have known that disposing PFOA posed dangers to the environment and Hoosick Falls residents.

Donavan also worries about his children and grandchildren contracting illnesses years down the road.

“It could be worse, I certainly can eat enough cooked vegetables to stay healthy. It's not going to kill me right today,” said Donavan.

The lawsuit says that Donavan’s home has decreased in value due to the contamination. He’s also seeking damages to cover medical costs and the decrease in value in his property.
