NORWICH, N.Y. -- He's already serving 25 years to life in prison for murdering his wife, and now a Chenango County man will serve more time behind bars for attempting to bribe a corrections officer.
Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran was sentenced in Chenango County Court Wednesday to 5 to 15 additional years in prison.
Ramsaran admitted to trying to pay an officer $100,000 to help him escape. He was convicted in 2014 of killing his wife Jennifer.
Ramsaran's sentence will be served at the same time as his murder sentence. But the district attorney says that doesn't make it any less meaningful.
"I make sure, without the expense of the trial, I've got a conviction for the bribery, it will be on his record and after what happened in Clinton and Dannemora, we want to make sure that people who are convicted of murder stay behind bars where they belong," said Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride.
Ramsaran agreed to waive his right to appeal the bribery conviction. He is appealing his murder conviction. That's expected to be heard by the appellate division later this year.
