ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Beulah Meloche was all smiles at her birthday party, as were staff members and other residents. After all, they were celebrating an incredible moment. Meloche turned 109.

"Our residents mean a lot to us and, especially at 109, I think you deserve a big party," said RiverLedge Residence Certified Nurses Aide Brook Duprey.

Now a resident of RiverLedge Residence in Ogdensburg, Meloche originally grew up in Plattsburgh. She came to RiverLedge in 2011 and staff members say they've enjoyed working with her.

"She's an awesome resident anyway, and then for being 109, she's as independent as you could ever hope to be and everybody loves her," said RiverLedge Residence Nurse Manager Adrienne Danenberger.

They showed her that love by throwing a surprise birthday party. Meloche spent the afternoon opening presents, including a variety of candy and lotions, and eating cake, which she even got to cut.

"It was good. Beautiful gifts, oh my goodness," said Meloche.

Despite being the oldest resident, staff members say Meloche is able to take of herself well, from dressing and feeding herself, to exercising and doing yoga every day.
