One woman is putting the finishing touches on her new mini-golf course before she opens it to the North Country community. Caitlin Landers explains why the owner feels this new business is so important, even though she isn't an avid mini-golfer.

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Beth Robinson says she moves to the beat of her own drummer. She's been self-employed for most of her career. And four years ago, she decided to take a swing at opening a mini-golf course, but not for love of the game.

"I think it's not so much mini-golf but there's a need for somewhere to go. And for me, this location between Potsdam and Canton seems really important to pull from both communities," said Swing Time Mini-Golf owner Beth Robinson.

Robinson has put a lot of work into Swing Time, located on Route 11 in Potsdam. She says she wasn't anticipating to open this late in the year, but the whole process took a long time. And she's prepared to keep guest warm for the chilly temperatures.

"We're North Country. We're hearty. Just another jacket on. I'll have spare gloves," said Robinson.

While Robinson says mini-golfing isn't exactly her favorite activity, she thinks that having locals interact with each other is what makes this course opening a hole-in-one.

"Well I really believe in interactive activites and I think miniature golf brings to mind just a nice time. A lot of people are nostalgic for it, people with young kids say we really want something to do with our families, with our kids. I think it's a great date night activity, and I think Potsdam was looking for something like this," saiid Robinson.

So with this new place to go, the owner hopes locals will think Swing Time is a hole-in-one like she does.
