Nearly 50 employees have been let go from Syracuse-based POMCO over the past week.

The benefits administration company eliminated the positions due to the shutdown of Health Republic Insurance.

POMCO had a contract with Health Republic to provide member services and claims administrations, which added more than 125 employees to that team.

But with the company now being decommissioned, POMCO is scaling back.

The company let go 39 people yesterday, on top of another 10 last week.

POMCO says it anticipates it will remain under contract with Health Republic for the next six months.

But there could be more cuts after that.
