MASSENA, N.Y. -- From Chicago to the North Country, Blackhawks Video Coach Matt Meacham on Tuesday brought the Stanley Cup back to his hometown rink in Massena.
"This is where my passion for the game started. This is were I learned how to skate, my dad and I," says Meacham.
NHL fans like Cameron Smith eagerly waited for their turn with the trophy.
"It's pretty cool that I'm going to see the Stanley Cup, and you don't get to see something like that every day," said Smith.
"I think that no matter who you root for, it doesn't matter. If the Stanley Cup is in your area, you're definitely going to come see it, for sure," says Meacham's sister, Aimee Poirier, here with her daughter.
Meacham said he's proud to bring the Stanley Cup back to his hometown to help out some North Country fans.
"To bring it to this town, to share this with the town of Massena and the surrounding areas, it's a dream come true to not only have my day, but it's the community's day too," says Meacham.
Former SUNY Potsdam Coach John Horan said Meacham's accomplishments, and the Stanley Cup viewing, is a great chance to inspire youth.
"Hopefully, it'll help rejuvenate hockey youth programs in Massena, so I think it's unspeakable how important that is for us," said Horan.
