The East Syracuse-Minoa School District says it plans to bolster security across all its schools before the next school year.

In a letter to the community sent earlier this week following a board meeting, the superintendent says the district has secured funding to install a weapons detection systems at each main entrance in the district.

This comes after a student brought ammunition into Pine Grove Middle School last week. While it was determined no criminal charges could be filed, the student is subject to school disciplinary action.

"As shared at the ESM Board of Education Meeting, the seriousness of the consequence is directly related to the seriousness of the conduct," the letter read. "The action of bringing ammunition into the school building, under the Code of Conduct and education law is serious misconduct.

"It has come to our attention that misinformation regarding the consequence for such a serious Code of Conduct violation (a short-term suspension of 2 days) has been posted on social media. That information is not accurate."
