A group of Clarkson University professors have just been awarded a grant worth nearly $150,000.

The National Science Foundation's grant will be allocated towards designing a new intelligent and adaptive firefighting exoskeleton.

The project is part of the NSF's "10 Big Ideas for the Future" program.

Professors from the mechanical and aeronautical engineering and computer science departments will be working together in this effort.

The focus of the study will identify how the integration of an exoskeleton in a firefighting suit helps mitigate injury and increase safety.

They also plan to work with local organizations advocating for underrepresented groups, such as women in firefighting.
