The Monroe County Clerk is warning of a department of motor vehicle (DMV) appointment scam.

Jamie Romeo says that people are booking DMV appointments and trying to sell them to others who are struggling to find appointments.

Romeo wants to make clear that buying an appointment won't get you into the DMV, and that you should use the website or contact her office.

She says her office has reported this as fraud to the state attorney general.

"We want to make sure that we don't allow families and individuals that are trying to access DMV services to be taken advantage of,” Romeo said. “We will work with anyone that needs to get services. We don't want to see any family spending private money to pay for appointments that, quite frankly, might not get you through the door."

Romeo says Monroe County DMVs are averaging 915 appointments per day and will shift resources to meet the growing demand for appointments.
