SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There is a suspect in the deadly shooting of a former SUNY Brockport Student in Syracuse.

Investigators say 26-year-old Jonathon Diaz died on Thanksgiving Eve. The school confirms he was a student there and did play one season of football in 2010, but would not say if he graduated.

They say 28-year-old Sangsouriyanh Maniphonh is charged with second degree murder.

They believe the pair started arguing inside a local bar, then continued it in the street, where police say Diaz was shot and killed. The suspect also reportedly shot himself in the hand during the incident.

If found guilty, he could face 25 years to life in prison.

Just hours later, dozens gathered for a candlelight vigil to remember Diaz.

Friends describe him as a beautiful, amazing person who holds a special place in the hearts of many.
